Artist Statement
I feel that the majority of my artwork improved greatly over the semester. When I first began this class, I was only familiar with programs such as photoshop and fireworks. i had never used illustrator before, so that was definitely one of my greatest challenges. I spent a lot of time during projects problem solving with these new programs. I mainly used illustrator, but also used fireworks quite a bit because I had lots of experience from that from 8th and 9th grade. The logo design, our first project, was one of my favorites because we were able to apply our own characteristics and ideas to the skills we had learned in class. I also really enjoyed making my own infographic because I was able to choose a topic that interested me and I thought that it was very fun to create. I chose to center my infographic around endangered animals, becuase I think it's an interesting topic and I really like animals. The propaganda poster wasn't my favorite project, but I still had lots of fun collaborating with other students and getting to know them better. We decided to make posters that focused on the senior lunch area at school, and I think that the artwork turned out very successful. We used aspects of pop art to create our posters and combined it with a little bit of our own individual style. I would say that a lot of my work had been influenced by other's designs, and if I saw a design that I liked, I wouldn't necessarily copy it, but perhaps try to incorporate some similar elements. However, i feel that all of my projects ended up very original, and after i got past initial struggles, I feel that my projects were quite successful. Something that I really enjoyed about this class was the fact that we got an assignment with some guidelines, but we had the ability to go nearly millions of different directions with it. Every person in the class put their own individual twist on each projecet, resulting in a unique variety of outcomes. I loved seeing the artwork of others, and I thought that everybody in this class had really good ideas of their own. I would hope that these skills will benefit me in not only other classes, but in the future as well. I learned a lot and i have much to take away from this class, and I am especially glad that I now have a proficiency with these previously unfamiliar programs.
